Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Information Systems Manager, coordinates, facilitates and provides project leadership to the design, implementation, process redesign, support, and use of systems specifically built for use by members of Brooks Memorial Hospital while maintaining open lines of communication to their supported user base and the Information Systems’ leadership. The Application Support Specialist provides support and technical assistance for the Meditech, PICIS and EMR applications to ensure that systems are fully functional and data is accurate to facilitate BMH healthcare professionals and administrators in analyzing, understanding and deciding between options in order to meet the strategic goals of the hospital; participates in the planning, development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of clinical information systems, including but not limited to the Meditech system, builds, updates and maintains dictionaries, participates in revising and implementing changes to both automatic and manual components of the medical record in conjunction with healthcare professionals and hospital administrators, and responds to requests and concerns from end users on functionality and utilization of clinical applications to achieve intended outcomes; provides statistical reports to healthcare professionals and administrators, assisting report requestors in defining the data to be analyzed and reporting outcomes to be achieved and utilizing disparate sources of clinical information and synthesizing data into coherent, comprehensive reports within the requested timeframe; and develops and maintains positive communication and relationship with internal and external customers, demonstrating a high level of customer service and problem solving skills that assist the end user in accomplishing their objectives.
Working with IT team members, multidisciplinary teams, end-user groups and vendors, must be able to communicate effectively, coordinate multiple duties simultaneously, be able to independently solve Information Service related issues. Understand interactions between clinical areas and their rolls within the hospital. Basic computer skills are required including: keyboarding, use of DOS, PC's, computers, terminals, printers, etc. General knowledge in report writing for various areas of the hospital. Requires critical thinking skills, ability to stay calm under pressure, exemplifies excellent decision-making, delegating, and technical writing skills; leadership skills and ability to foster an environment of teamwork, professionalism, and customer satisfaction; takes initiative for problem solving and decision making; working collaboratively with a variety of licensed and non-licensed professionals internal and external to hospital operations, strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
Education / Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Current and unrestricted NYS LPN license, or NYS RN license required. Experience as a primary/advanced user of EMR systems, Meditech experience strongly preferred. Five years of experience in clinical information systems, or training in clinical informatics required. Strong technical and communication skills required.
